Where does the dues money I pay in September go?
The $30 for returning scouts and $40 for new scouts, all goes directly to Erie Shores Council, then on to National. The national registration fee for a year is $10 and the yearly Boy’s Life subscription is $12. (The new scouts have the months of Sep – Jan prorated to cover the current year.) We collect an extra few dollars to help cover the dues of the adult leaders, which are also $10 a year. Our Charter comes due in January each year.
How is the Pack funded?
The Pack is funded through our annual popcorn sale. We get to keep 30% of everything we sell. We may also have various fundraisers throughout the year such as a Bake Sale, Pinewood Derby Concessions, car wash and etc.
What will I have to pay for?
The Pack will generally pay for everything the Pack does with the money from our fundraisers. From time to time we may ask you donate items like food for events like the Family Campout or Pinewood Derby Concessions, to help offset the cost. Also, our Den Leader may ask for Den Dues to help pay for items used during the Den Meetings. These dues are very minimal, generally a $1 or $2 each Den meeting.
Are any of the leaders paid?
No, all the leaders from the Cub Master to each Den Leader are volunteers. They volunteer their time to help provide your son a quality Scouting program. You can help too. The Pack operates solely on volunteers and without them the pack would not exist! If each scout had 1 parent volunteer 1 time during the year that would give us 45 volunteers!! Contact us to help out.
What does the Pack spend the money on?
We spend the money on various activities that our Pack participates in. Various patches, belt loops and pins that your son earns and receives are purchased by the Pack. We support the Family Picnic, Family Campout, and the Blue and Gold Banquet. Each Scout will receive a Pinewood Derby Car, Trophy and Patch. The Pack purchases each Scout a Mud Hens ticket for the game. At the end of each year we take what money is left and help each Scout offset the cost of Cub Day Camp.
Why do we need the handbooks?
The Scouting Handbooks are an integral part of the Scouting program. The Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos handbooks give you step-by-step help as you move along the Cub Scout trail.
Does my scout need to wear the uniform?
Yes, your son should wear his Cub Scout uniform to all Scouting activities – not only den and pack meetings, but every activity in which he takes part with other Cub Scouts, unless specified by a leader.
